Fitted Composite Doors

Filed under: Fitted composite doors — Tags: — Andy @ 10:21 am

Global Door are proud to be one of the first online companies to install front and back doors for homes throughout the UK. We have fitted composite doors from Plymouth to Thurso, and we now install exterior doors in Northern Ireland as well. The secret to our success is simple; a high quality product coupled with unbeatable customer service.

Fitted composite doors are now available throughout the UK from Global Door. As we are an E-Commerce outfit, we save fortunes on showrooms, salesmen and TV ad’s compared to ‘the big boys’. This means that we can offer an unbeatable service at more than half the price of what you may be quoted from large double glazing outfits. (We also don’t put on huge margins with a view to ‘ringing the manager’ and slashing the price in half. Pressure selling is not our style).

So it may all sound too good to be true; a reputable company who can install front and back doors for homes anywhere in the UK for half the cost of a large double glazing outfit? And your telling me that the product is one of the finest examples in the UK market today? And you offer a premium installation service? Whats the catch?

Unfortunately for our competition, there isn’t one. As an online company we value the opinions of our customers more than anything, and we have a wealth of composite door reviews from previous customers that testify to our high level of service.

We are also a founding member of the DGCOS, which is proof to potential clients that Global Door are a reputable company who’s work is constantly monitored and vetted. It is a worthwhile statistic that 39% of installers who apply to be members of the DGCOS are turned down due to their strict screening process. To our customers we feel that this is peace of mind when considering your new fitted front door – we even sent out a DGCOS peace of mind pack with every installation.

One customer who is certainly happy with his purchase is Mr.Deacon from Birmingham. This customer had been quoted a ridiculous sum of money for a fitted composite door from a large national company, and feeling uneasy about the quote decided to do some research online. After a chat with one our salesmen, the customer decided to go ahead with Global Door, commenting that the price we quoted was over £1000 cheaper than his original quote! Mr. Deacon was also impressed with our knowledgable staff, who discussed some of the more technical queries Mr. Deacon had that the previous salesmen had sidestepped.

Cheap Composite Doors

Filed under: Composite doors — Tags: — Andy @ 3:02 pm

At Global Door we are often asked if we can supply cheap composite doors. The simple answer is no. What we can supply is  high quality composite doors at a cheap price…

I don’t know about you but whenever I hear a company boasting about their cheap prices there are usually a few alarm bells that start ringing. The very definition of cheap is not synonymous with quality, and more often than not the parts or service you receive will be inferior. This theory unfortunately applies to the double glazing industry like any other, and with so many companies now boasting cheap composite doors and low price front doors for homes how can you be sure that you are getting what you need: a quality product at the right price.

We all like to save money wherever we can, and at Global Door we believe that customers should feel like they are getting a good deal. As pioneers of the composite door industry, we would never discredit any other companies products, however it is worth remembering exactly what you are getting when you order your new front door from Global.

Firstly there is the huge list of accreditations that come with a Global composite exterior door; PAS23/24 as standard, as well as Secured by Design and Kitemark. Our doors and locking systems are approved by the Police Force, and also leading insurance companies. This could save you a good few pound when you come to renew your home insurance.

We have a range of over 20 door styles, from classic designs, cottage doors and contemporary options. Every door style can chosen with a coice of 7 colours and a huge range of glass designs, meaning you can customise your door exactly how you want it.

Cheap composite doors will never have the 35 year lifespan that a high quality GRP global door will, and when considering the next front door for your home this is worth considering.

Take a look below at the transformation this customer has made to his property. There are always reasons for wanting to change the front door for your home, and this customer was particularly concerned with security. The existing uPVC door was very flimsy, and had a cheap Euro cylinder that was prone to attack from burglars.

After the initial phone call, Global Door were out on site 9 days later installing the door. Not only has this greatly improved security of the property, but the customer was also thrilled with the look and feel of the timber grain effect as well.

Composite Front Doors For Homes Really Can Cut Down On Energy Bills

At Global Door we know a thing or two about exterior doors. A front door for a home is always an important feature, and is in many cases the first impression anybody has of your home. When selling a property it has been claimed that psychologically first impressions are made within seconds of arriving at your home – and if that first impression is an ugly uPVC panel door or a tired wooden door, things are not looking up.

Of course selling a house is not the only reason to replace an external front door with a composite door, and in the current economical climate many people prefer to improve rather than move. Composite front doors really do enhance the look of a home; with over 7 colours available and a stunning realistic timber grain, our composite door range really is something special.

The thermal properties of our composite doors are some of the best available for any residential door, with some of our range achieving U values of 1.1. For those who don’t know, the U Value refers to how much energy is lost from within your property. For example, a warped old timber door will have a higher U value than a composite door with triple glazed glass units. The lower the U value the better.

To you the customer, we offer a U value certificate with every door produced, which is proof in black and white of the superior thermal properties of a Global Exterior composite door. After all, what can’t speak can’t lie.

Our front doors for homes can also be upgraded to have thermal glass, which improves the U value even further. These upgraded glass units are filled with argon gas to improve insulation, and also have a warm edge spacer bar which deflects cold better than the standard. Glass technologies have come a long way since the dawn of double glazing, and Global Door have definitely moved with the times.

Here is a recent example we installed for a customer in Kent. This customer had already had her original aluminium windows changed to Rosewood uPVC, but had avoided changing the door as she did not like uPVC. A few years later and the customer revisited replacing the door as it was terribly cold in the hallway during the Autumn/Winter months. After contacting us, the customer decided on a darkwood composite door combination – and after we completed the installation she said the difference in the hallway was unbelievable. Not only did the door combination look amazing (and compliment the existing rosewood windows), but also it has had a positive effect on the heating bill as well.

FD30 Composite Fire Doors Installed By Global Door Nationwide

If you live in a flat or apartment and are looking to replace your front door, you may or may not be aware that by law your door has to be fire tested for at least 30 minutes. This can also apply to doors leading into garages and occasionally communal entrance doors.

A door that has this accreditation is known as an FD30 door, or fire door. A composite fire door is a relatively new addition to the market, and something that not many companies can currently offer. At Global Door we have yet again set the standard as we can supply and install composite fire doors nationwide.

FD30 composite fire doors appear exactly the same as a normal composite front door, save for the glass units which will have a pane of Georgian Wire Cast safety fire glass. It is the materials used on a composite fire door that set it apart, and our doors only use the highest quality components available.

We can offer 7 different styles in FD30 format from our stunning composite door range, ensuring that we have something for everyone. We also offer these doors in all of our standard colours, including white, red, blue, green, black, oak and rosewood.

Here is a recent FD30 composite door installation carried out by Global Door. This customer wanted a classic design and went for the 6 panel solid design in black with chrome furniture. Not only is the property now much more secure, but our customer was also thrilled with the transformation the door made to her property.

Composite Exterior Doors To Transform Your Home

Filed under: Front Doors — Tags: — Andy @ 4:39 pm

Replacing the front door for your home can be one of the most cost effective ways to transform a property. Whether you realise it or not, the front entrance door is usually the first impression somebody will have of your castle. Lets face it, the majority of houses all look exactly the same – bricks and mortar. Aside from some outlandish decorations at Xmas time and some garden gnomes on the lawn it can be difficult to add character to an external building.

Now though, thanks to our outstanding collection of bespoke composite doors, you can really put your own spin on your home. Not everybody has the same tastes, which is why at Global Door we have a range of over 21 door styles to suit everyone.

Here is an example of a customer who wanted a classic ‘Victorian’ style door. This style of front door will compliment any property, however they are especially popular with terraced and town houses and Victorian perod properties. This customer has opted for a black door with chrome  hardware. Remember there are 7 colours avaiable with a multitude of glass options!

Below is a customer who has chosen a door at the other end of the spectrum. This couple were looking for a funky modern exterior door, and wanted something that would make them stand out from the crowd. They eventually went for the ultra modern 4 square composite door in black with chrome hardware. We also made this door with Satin glass, to give the whole door combination a classy, modern feel.

This couple were particularly over the moon as we installed this a few days before Christmas. We actually received an email over the holiday period to say that all of their family and friends who had been around had been amazed by the door – remember if you recommend a family or friend there are discounts available!

Composite doors VS wooden doors

Filed under: Exterior Doors — Tags: — Andy @ 12:22 pm

There are still an awful lot of properties throughout the UK with wooden or timber external front doors, of varying degrees of quality. Many customers who are considering a new front or back door for their home still consider a wooden door. There is no denying that a good quality wooden door can look striking and compliment a property in a way a ghastly uPVC door never could. However, there are a number of setbacks that befall any wooden door.

The first is the price. Although cheap wooden doors are available, these defy the point a replacement front door and could well lead to more maintenance and pitfalls than your current door. Wooden doors are ordinarily around 45% more expensive than a composite alternative, due to the current climate a naturally occurring substance such as timber, oak etc. commands high prices and more manufacturing time.

Secondly there is the maintenance. This is one issue that has been completely addressed by composite doors, as anyone with a wooden door will know they usually require a fresh coat of paint every year to prevent from looking faded and tired. Having to constantly oil and adjust hinges and mechanisms is also common on wooden doors, and for most people these days with a busy lifestyle this is simply an unnecessary burden.

The third and undoubtedly the biggest drawback of a wooden door is that they are exposed to the elements. Being a natural product, wooden doors are renowned to shrink, warp and bow in extreme weather conditions. Too much sunlight or a particularly cold Winter and you may find that a wooden door becomes inoperable. Wooden doors can also twist in the frame over the years and are not an ideal long term solution.

A good example of this is a customer from last year who approached us desperately to replace a front and back timber door. He had spent over £2000 on the wooden doors 14 months earlier, which still looked brand new and were quite striking in a pale green colour. Unfortunately the doors had bowed so badly no amount of adjusting could salvage them, and loopholes in the 10 year guarantee ensured he could not get compensation.

There is a way to avoid a situation like this unfortunate customer, and that is to choose a composite door. Boasting the timber grain effect of a wooden door with zero maintenance required, composite doors really are the door of the future. A 44mm thick slab will keep the coldest Winter out, and with aluminium reinforcing and a reinforced sub-frame you can rest assured the door will never bow or weather.

Take a look at this recent example; this an external front door that Global Door replaced – we think you will agree that the replacement is not only an improvement in terms of looks, but also in strength and security.

Front doors – modern external composites door styles from Global Door…

The beauty of a composite door is not only the superior security aspect they offer but also the wide range of choice available when it comes to designs. Our Global composite door range offers over 22 styles and 7 different colours. We also have a huge range of glass designs available which means you can customise your door to your hearts content.

Although we offer many classic and traditional styling options, last year saw Global Door push the envelope yet again and introduce some contemporary front door styles into the mix. Since launching this range last year we have been overwhelmed with the response, and it seems that a lot of people have been waiting for door styles that stand out from the crowd.

With unique glazing styles and options, this new range appeals to customers who are looking for something modern and fresh. In late February this year we took a call from a gentleman who asked if we have any ‘funky composite doors’. This customer had just bought his first property with his partner, and neither of them were keen on the look of their existing uPVC door. After going through some options over the phone the customer took our advice on the 4 square door, and 10 days later his brand new composite was fully installed, much to their delight. We took a couple of snaps to show the difference this has made to their property:

old UPVC Door

This customer has chosen a 4 square composite door in black. This door features chrome hardware (a popular choice that looks stunning set against a black door) and a triple glazed glass design known as Zinc Art Abstract. There is no denying the impact a brand new composite door can make on a property, and if you are looking for a contemporary door style that is as stylish as it is secure, look no further than Global Door.

Police Approved composite doors from Global Door – beating the burglars…

A few weeks ago we received a call from a gentleman who had purchased one of our doors over two years ago. Unfortunately whilst he had been on holiday with his wife and children, somebody had tried to break into his property.

The attacker had targeted the back door (as most do as they are generally more secluded than the front), and was obviously equipped with a crowbar and some other tools. Quite how long he attacked the door for is unknown, however the damage left would suggest that he had tried his hardest to prise the leaf out of the frame using blunt force.

As you can see from the photo below, the outer frame on the lock side has been almost smashed completely through, the gasket has been ripped out and the cylinder showed signs of tampering. There was also evidence that the door had been kicked and attacked at the bottom, usually the weakest point on a uPVC door. It is not impossible to kick a uPVC panel clean through at the bottom if kicked hard enough, however with our 44mm thick composite doors, a broken foot is the only outcome.

Break in door

It is a frightening thought that people are so willing to intrude in someones property, and this particular individual obviously spent a good few minutes trying. What is comforting though, is that our composite doors have yet again proved to be as safe and secure as we boast. There is no way that a timber or uPVC door could withstand such a brutal attack, however a Global composite door is proven to be one of the safest on the market.

Our doors are police approved and meet Secured by Design accreditation, and we also have PAS23/24 accreditations. Incidents such as this make these more than meaningless words or sales patter, and prove that in the unfortunate event your property is attacked (God forbid), you can rest assured a Global composite door won’t let you down.

The customer in question had duly contacted his Insurance company, and we were more than happy to go back out and install the replacement door. Our customer commented:

“We were distraught when we arrived home and saw the damage to the back door, a truly horrible thing to see when you are returning from a break away. I must say though that I was very impressed the door had kept them out, it had obviously had quite some force put behind it to damage the frame so badly. Global Door were excellent afterwards and came out to survey the door the next day after I called them. The door was fitted the next week which is an unbeatable level of service. Thank you once again.”

Hopefully this scenario will never happen to you, but but it is always worth remembering that when family members and possesions can be so easily put at risk, a high security door is invaluable.

Global Door install composite doors in Northern Ireland…

As self proclaimed pioneers of the composite door market, Global Door have a list of innovations as long as your arm…

3 day doors? No problem.
Installation anywhere in the UK? Absolutely.
A choice of over 21 door styles in 7 colours, all with PAS23/24 & Secured by Design accreditation? Of course.
A 10 year guarantee on all doors and a 5 year guarantee on all installation works? No really we aren’t making this up…

Over the last few years we have sold doors as far as Japan, France and Gibraltar. We even installed a door on the Isle of Harris; the property was a coastal getaway facing the very worst that the North Atlantic could throw at it, and we are happy to report that nearly three years on the door is still standing proud without any evidence of wear or corrosion. Those weather tests we keep banging on about really are worth having after all…

The subject of this blog is not a brand new innovation, but for the best part of a year Global Door have been able to offer installation in Northern Ireland. This is a big achievement for us as previously we were only able to offer our installation service to mainland UK. We never like to let people down, and can now offer the exact same service to Northern Ireland customers.

So far we have installed composite doors in Belfast, Ballymoney, Newry, Enniskillen, Cookstown and Londonderry to name but a few. Many potential customers in Northern Ireland are not aware that our installation service applies to them! We hope fit fit many more composite doors in Northern Ireland over the next few years, and hope to gain as good a customer base there as we have in the mainland already.

So remember if you are a customer in Northern Ireland looking to enhance your property with a new composite door give us a call. We’ll even give you a discount if you’ve made it this far!

I want a door that is secure, strong and maintenance free…

At Global Door we have been supplying composite doors nationwide for a few years now. There are lots of reasons why you might want to change the front door (or back door) to your house. Many customers have an old timber or uPVC door that just does not cut the mustard for whatever reason.

Timber doors can look attractive, particularly if they have had a regular lick of paint. More often than not though they are drafty, warped and generally a nuisance. The downside of having a natural product for a base material is that it is unpredictable, and many customers who are replacing timber doors report swelling or warping in any extreme weather conditions.

uPVC doors are by comparison a bit more predictable, however they come with their own pitfalls. Security is a major risk factor with most uPVC panel doors. A strong kick could probably put the panel through, and many more than 10 years old are probably fitted with cheap Euro cylinders that can be easily bumped, drilled or snapped. And nobody can deny that uPVC doors are UGLY; horrible gasket, discoloured panels and ridiculous glass designs make these white plastic doors very unflattering. The front door is the first thing someone will judge your house by, and you want to make an impression.

Thats why when a customer said to us yesterday “I want a door that is strong and looks good” we knew that our GRP composite door range would tick the right box. We have a range of 7 colours available, and all doors come with a realistic timber grain finish. Never again will you have to paint the door, as our coloured GRP skins are totally maintenance free (aside from the occasional clean or drop of oil to the hinges). As we use GRP as well, the doors will remain impervious to sun fade and discolouration throughout their lifetime.

Security wise we have also got it covered. Our PAS24 accreditation sees the doors go through a rigorous series of brute force attacks, which test the strength of the door to the limit. Our doors are all suited with Yale hardware as standard, and feature Secured by Design locking strips and anti-bump cylinders. We can also provide Secured by Design upgrades with laminated glass if required.

Combining security and style, Global have it covered. Check out our designer online to get your quote today.
