As composite doors have boomed in popularity over the last few years, many people are now debating composite doors over wooden doors. The majority of doors that are replaced in the domestic market are wooden doors, and a composite door seems like the obvious choice for a replacement for a number of reasons.

If you are considering composite doors over wooden doors it is important to have all of the facts. Sure, wooden doors can look appealing, especially if they have just had a fresh coat of paint, but the major pitfall of wood is that it is a naturally occuring product.

This means that in extreme weather conditions the door is prone to swelling, warping and twisting, which makes the composite doors over wooden doors debate seem like a no brainer!

A composite door however, will not let you down no matter what the weather. Comprised of a 44m thick reinforced door leaf, composite doors over wooden doors are vastly superior in terms of both strength and security.

Every door comes fitted as standard with a Secured by Design approved multipoint locking system, which locks the door into the frame at 3 points. Compare this to a traditional Yale lock which is usally found on a wooden door, which only offers one locking point. This leaves the bottom of the door vulnerable, which is another reason that a lot of people now favour composite doors over wooden doors.

Maintenance is another big reason that so many customers across the UK now choose composite doors over wooden doors. Whereas a wooden door requires a yearly coat of paint to prevent it looking shabby, a composite door will stay looking shiny and brand new for many years to come. This is due to the unique GRP skins that we use, which boast a realistic timber grain that give the effect of real wood, but are also incredibly resilient and resistant to sun fade.

If you are still torn between composite doors over wooden doors, consider that a decent hardwood or oak door could set you back anywhere between £2000-£5000. Compare this to our ultra secure compoite doors, which can be fully installed from £796.00 including VAT.

Take a look at this door which we recently installed in Essex. This customer had a particularly flimsy timber door which he wanted to change as it was a security hazard. Choosing composite doors over wooden doors was a good move for this customer, who now has a super secure and stylish door that didn’t cost the earth.
