Composite Door Threshold:

Before designing your composite door it is a good idea to consider if you require a standard PVC threshold or a low aluminium threshold.

Features:

  • Compliant with wheelchair access guidelines, perfect for new build houses and less of a trip hazard for all concerned
  • Flat aluminium surface does not collect dust and dirt as a normal PVC thresh does, and will only require an occasional wipe with a damp cloth
  • Sleek modern design adds to the overall appearance of your composite door. Also available in Chrome, Gold and Black to match your door furniture
  • Tried and tested design that is completely weather resistant and draught-free

However, some customers may still feel more at home with a traditional PVC threshold. Whichever you decide, it is important to remember that altering your threshold will affect the door height. Please refer to the parameters section for more information.

Add ons:

Add-ons (sometimes referred to as a build up) are basically a frame extension that is fixed onto the side of a door.

Add-ons are not always necessary, but are popular on houses where there is a deep plaster line. In such cases, an add-on would be fixed to the hinge side of the door to ensure that the hinges were not lost behind the plaster line.

If your aperture size is bigger than our parameters allow, please contact a member of our staff for help.

Sills For Composite Doors:

Your front door will either fit straight into the brickwork or sit on an external sill. We offer sills in two sizes; 85mm and 150mm. The vast majority of composite doors sit on 150mm sills.

Butt Hinges:

Our composite doors come fitted with butt hinges as standard. There are three hinges per door, each sitting 53mm from the edge of the frame. Please note that butt hinges are non-adjustable. For the majority of installs adjusting the hinges on a composite door is not necessary. As our doors come pre-hung and pre-glazed, the most important aspect to remember is that the frame must sit completely flush with the brickwork. In some cases the brick opening may not be completely square, and occasionally hinges may need to be adjusted slightly to ensure the door operates correctly.

For these reasons we offer flag hinges as an optional upgrade. Our flag hinges are adjustable, and some composite doors installers prefer to always use flag hinges in the event that adjustment is inevitable. As mentioned in the above section, flag hinges are thicker than butt hinges and only leave 25mm from the edge of the frame. Consider whether or not this leaves you enough room to the plaster line. If you are concerned it may be advisable to put an add-on down the hinge side.
