What is a composite door?

Composite doors are fast replacing uPVC and wooden doors in the residential housing market, and its easy to see why. Composite doors not only look great but also out perform other door types in terms of security.

On both faces of the door is a 2.5mm GRP (glass reinforced plastic) skin. A Global composite door will never need painting, and requires virtually no maintenance.

The core of your door is comprised of various elements. First there is a timber sub-frame that adds strength and rigidity to the door. The rest of the door is then composed of various types of foam, which adds further strength to the door.

The result is a 44mm thick extra strong door leaf – we even add aluminium inserts on both sides to prevent the door from warping or bowing.

Please note that all of our composite doors are manufactured right here in the UK – avoid cheaper alternatives that are bought in bulk from the Far East.

Composite Doors Explained?

1GRP through colour skin

The skin on both sides of the door is 2.4mm GRP. GRP is resistant to scratches and sun fade, and the through colour runs right through the skin. The icing on the cake is the timber grain effect, which gives a realistic simulation of real wood.

2High density polyurethane foam

The core of the door is mainly a high density foam, which is not only strong but also has excellent thermal properties. This increases the energy rating of your door which can lead to a reduction in heating bills.

3Timber sub frame

Inside the door is a timber sub frame – this adds strength and rigidity to the door. It also prevents the door from flexing or warping over time.

4PVCU reinforced outer frame

The door is pre hung in a steel reinforced PVCU outer frame. The steel inside the outer frame adds a strong fixing to the brickwork, and as the frame is PVCU it is easy to keep clean. PVCU also requires almost no maintenance.

5Aluminium low threshold

We supply an aluminium low access threshold, which means that when you step into your home the step over is flat. This is less of a trip hazard and is especially suited to households with wheelchair access and small children. These are also easy to keep clean and do not collect dirt as easily as other threshold options.

6External sill

The external sill sits underneath your door, and is primarily there to drain away rain water. The external sill will be wrapped around the brickwork on a typical composite door installation, which gives a neat, professional finish.
