The Spring\nEquinox, otherwise known as the Vernal Equinox, occurs each year on the 20th<\/sup>\nMarch, and heralds the arrival of spring and thoughts of lazy hazy summer days\njust around the corner. But what is the Spring Equinox \u2013 did we not hear the\nNational Weatherman tell us just the other day that astronomical Spring fell on\n1st<\/sup> March \u2013 so what\u2019s the difference <\/p>\n\n\n\n

An equinox which\nonly happens twice a year once during the Autumn Equinox and once during the\nSpring Equinox marks the point when the sun positions itself exactly above the\nequator before crossing it.  The Spring\nequinox marks the beginning of astronomical spring, meaning from today onwards\nthe days will be longer than the nights, which hopefully means more sunshine\nwith all the good things it brings, warmth, light, the rebirth of flora and\nfauna and individual health benefits, a boost in happiness levels, the vitamin\nD we miss out on during the darkness of winter  and possibly even a tan. Of course,\nanyone who suffers from Hay Fever will probably not be looking forward to their\nannual bout of sneezing and crying as the flowers begin to bloom and pollen is\nrife in the air <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spring is the\ntime to feel relieved we have survived the winter \u2013 a bright and optimistic\ntime to look forward to brighter days ahead \u2013 but first comes the spring\ncleaning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whilst your\ngiving your front door a bit of a spruce up maybe you should take a closer look\n\u2013 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

is the frame\nstill secure? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

does your door\nsit well in the frame -no warps or twists?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

-are there any\nbroken or glazed panels?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 are the locks and hinges still working well? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

are the\naccessories still complete and working well (springs on letterplates etc)?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

if everything is\ngood then your door has survived another winter intact but will it do as well\nnext year?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If the answer to\nany or all of the above is negative it is maybe time to start planning for next\nwinter. If your front door is older it will more than likely be the source of\ndraughts, which means both cold entering and heat leaving your home and that\nheat loss is just like waving goodbye to your hard-earned cash and getting\nnothing in return.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
