Save Energy and Increase Your Property Value

When was the last time any of us saw a headline that read – “Energy Prices are falling” – probably never they just keep on rising which it makes it all the more important that we all do everything we can to insulate our homes. We constantly hear about the benefits of “new boilers”, “double glazing”, loft insulation etc but we rarely hear mention of the fact that a draughty poorly fitted door can be the cause of up to 11% of the heat loss from our homes. You love your front door, it has served you well, but even you have to be honest and admit it is getting just a little tired, very little if anything in our world lasts forever and doors are no exception to this rule, they grow old and tired and when they do so not only does their appearance show the signs of age but their performance generally deteriorates, older doors are rarely insulated or adequately draft-sealed therefore they become a great source of heat loss, take a look at your old door, if it warps, or sticks or the draught proofing has seen better days and it seems a bit loose in the frame, maybe it is time to consider a new one.

Appearances are not everything when considering a new door, it’s no good simply looking good but letting the costly heat inside your home slip away, to be cost effective your new door must be durable enough to function smoothly for years to come, tough enough to withstand everything our climate can throw at it, constructed in a manner that will improve both insulation and heat loss qualities and strong enough to allow your family to sleep safely secure in the knowledge that your door is as resistant to “break in” as is possible.

Plus of course it should look good so that it good that it will improve the value of your property – the solution to your new door conundrum could well be a new Composite door – you have read about them in the press – there reputation seems to be good – but which one will be best for you.

Why a composite door – the simple answer is that they have all of the benefits of a solid timber door but a lot less of the cost and maintenance requirements – the doors are factory pre-engineered under stringent quality managed conditions and are supplied as a door set (the door is already set in the frame during the manufacturing process) the draught proofing is also factory installed, so when it comes to installation the provided the frame is “Square” ( the hard part) the door simply screws into place making the whole installation process quicker and easier.

If you are in any doubt as to the thermal capabilities of a composite door you should ask its Energy Rating which will come as a certificate such as those below one of which should be included in your delivery pack if you eventually choose a Composite door.

Not all Composite Doors are constructed the same way some have a “rigid polyurethane core” and some have a “hardwood core” but they generally have a number of construction factors which apply to both –

  • a reinforced hardwood frame in which the core material is located.
  • a 2mm thick durable GRP through coloured skin to prevent warp, twist bow etc
  • a thickness of 44mm which adds to the strength and creates a strong secure door.
  • a steel reinforced UPVC frame

The difference between the two styles of manufacture is one of cost, “rigid polyurethane core” doors tend to be slightly cheaper than “hardwood core” doors so individual budgets may be a factor.

At the GFD Trading Group we give our customers both options as we have independent web sites for each door type so if you are looking for a rigid polyurethane core Composite door which gives the maximum energy saving within a realistic budget whilst also giving access to the maximum range of door styles and colours and has passed all the necessary accreditations and certifications with regard to energy saving and thermal and sound insulation qualities your choice has to be a Global Composite Door.

If you are looking for hardwood core Composite door which gives the maximum energy saving within a slightly enhanced budget whilst also giving access to an even more extensive range of door styles and colours and has passed all the necessary accreditations and certifications with regard to energy saving and thermal and sound insulation qualities your choice has to be a Timber Composite Door

All of our doors come with their own Energy Rating Certificates so savings in your energy bills are guaranteed from the moment you install your new front door and no matter which style you choose it is a door that will increase your property value because they look that good.

If you choose Global Composite Door. you can expect to find doors that look as good as those below
