“You’ll like this, not a lot, but you’ll like it”

RIP Paul Daniels

It’s been a bad year already for losing our stars of stage screen etc. and March is still not yet gone.

Among the more notable from the music world –

David Bowie, Glen Frey (he of the Eagles) Natalie Cole, Lemmy Kimmster (front man of Motor head) Keith Emmerson (ELP)

and from the acting world)

Alan Rickman, George Kennedy (tough guy actor Cool Hand Luke etc.) Dan Haggerty (Grizzly Adams)

and impresario types George Martin (the 5th Beatle) and Tony Warren (the founder of Coronation Street)

and in the past week we have lost two more individuals who have impacted upon the lives of the majority of us who have ever watched TV –

Sylvia Anderson one half of Sylvia and Gerry Anderson the creators of thunderbirds and Joe 90 to name but two – the lady who was the role model for the original and still unforgettable Lady Penelope

Paul Daniels Love him or hate him you could not miss him on Saturday night TV throughout the 70’s 80’s and 90’s

Paul and wife and partner Debbie McGee in typical pose

maybe not the best magician that you will ever see but certainly the consummate showman.

The death of Paul brings it all a little bit closer to we who live on Teesside because he was one of our own, born in 1938 in South Bank a suburb of Middlesbrough he enjoyed a glittering career shame it had to end so soon.

Here at Global Door we can safely say that we are going to miss all of the above because they were all larger than life characters who stepped into our lives via the medium of the radio or silver screen and each left a lasting impression be it their music or their entertainment.

To paraphrase Paul Daniels –

“We liked them all – quite a lot – we really liked them”
